brew install bash
sudo bash -c "echo /usr/local/bin/bash >> /etc/shells"
chsh -s /usr/local/bin/bash

# test if it works
echo $BASH && echo $BASH_VERSION

Git Prompt

To setup git prompt for bash, have a look at my dotfiles and take a look at .git-prompt-colors.sh to see how I set it up. There are lots of themes and defaults to play with.

override_git_prompt_colors() {
  GIT_PROMPT_THEME_NAME="Custom" # needed for reload optimization, should be unique

  GIT_PROMPT_START_USER="${Green}\u@${BoldBlue}\\h ${Cyan}\W"
  GIT_PROMPT_END_USER="${ResetColor} $ "
  GIT_PROMPT_END_ROOT="${BoldRed} # "

# load the theme
reload_git_prompt_colors "Custom"
